Arts, Craft and Cookery
About
Whilst we are named Arts, Crafts and Cookery, our classes give the opportunity for you to show off a huge range of skills no matter what age you are, from preschool to adult.
Our Art classes cover a range of mediums and techniques from oils to pastels, charcoal to pen and ink and if you’ve captured the perfect portrait or tried your hand at abstract then we’d love to see it. There are lots of opportunities for the budding photographer too.
If needlework and handicraft is your skill then we’d love to see your knitting and crochet masterpieces as well as embroidered creations. Perhaps you’ve made a cushion or a cuddly toy, and if jewellery-making is more your thing, we’d love to see what you’ve created. Our woodwork classes allow you to showcase all your wonderful pieces including woodturning and pyrography. If you’ve never entered before then our novice woodwork class is the one for you.
We’ve also branched out into the world of IT and have a digital design class so there really is something for everyone.
Our Cookery section is always popular with space for all types of cookery from carrot cakes to quiches, butterfly buns to sausage rolls and we all keep our fingers crossed that the Victoria sponges rise! Gluten-free and vegan cookery is also welcome. There’s a whole section for yeast cookery too and we mustn’t forget the Cornish classes where the pasties, heavy cake and saffron buns have a chance to be shown off. If you’ve had an Autumn glut of produce and have been busy creating preserves and chutneys, then bring them along.
If you’re a member of a local Women’s Institute then why not enter our group class which has a theme this year of ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Abba’. We’d love to see your interpretations.
On Show day you’ll also get a chance to see all the great work some of our local schools have produced to display in our marquee; we really do have a lot of young local talent.
So, whatever age you are and whatever talent you may have there is something for everyone and we’d love to showcase your work.
If you have a question that isn’t answered in either the schedule or online entry information (where appropriate) please email the section secretary [email protected] or call Lynn Gluyas on 01209 861094 or 07732 709276 or Fran Combellack on 07773 911731.
