Cattle
About
What Agricultural Show wouldn’t be complete without a Cattle Section, a true cornerstone of British Agriculture? Our judging rings are packed with some of Cornwall’s (and sometimes further afield) best native and continental cattle attracting Judges from far and wide and our exhibitors really do us proud with the standard we see year on year.
We welcome everyone to view the judging which takes place all morning, from 09:00. We run a live commentary alongside the judging where Judges give reasons for their placements so a lot can be learnt. The competition heats up just before lunchtime as the breeds all go head-to-head to win the coveted Supreme Champion title. This is shortly followed by the most important classes of all, the Children’s Handling classes. Children, some as young as 4, are judged on their handling technique and animal turnout. Doing their best to make their parents proud, the pressure the kids are under is palpable, but they enjoy every moment and it’s great to see our future generation of farmers.
Cattle lines are open to public viewing after the judging has taken place, for those must-have, up close Show day selfies and snaps with the gentle giants. The farmers are quite friendly too, so don’t be afraid to say hello and ask those curious questions!
We regret that we are unable to allow any dogs in the Cattle area of the Showground at any time, even those on leads; this is in the interest of everyone’s safety.
If you have a question that isn’t answered in either the schedule or online entry information (where appropriate) please email the section secretary, Helen Roskilly [email protected] or call on 07759 750506
