About

After the success of last year, we are delighted to welcomeback our Pig Section—and this year it’s even bigger.

The section is made up of individuals with directinvolvement in the pig industry in one way or another, giving us a wealth ofknowledge, experience, and passion behind the scenes.

Visitors can expect to see a wide array of some of thehighest quality pigs from across the country. Within the entry you will find astrong representation of the pig breeds recognised by both the British PigAssociation and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, including the ever-popular Kune Kune. These are divided into two categories: Traditional and Modern breeds.

Traditional breeds include Berkshire, British Lop, BritishSaddleback, Gloucestershire Old Spot, Large Black, Middle White, Oxford Sandy& Black, Tamworth, Mangalitsa, and Kune Kune.

Modern breeds include Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, LargeWhite, Pietrain, and Welsh.

For the first time this year, Kune Kune will also havetheir own dedicated classes, marking an exciting development for thesection and a great opportunity to showcase the breed in its own right.

Showing at the event is not only a chance for exhibitors toshowcase the quality of stock they are producing, but also an opportunity tomeet, socialise, and share knowledge with like-minded people from across thecountry. While the competition in the ring can appear strong, the pig communityis very much one big family, united by a shared passion for the breed.

The judge will be assessing each exhibit against its breed standard—for example, ensuring correct markings such as the six white points on a Berkshire—alongside overall soundness, structure, size, shape, and underline.

Alongside the main classes, the pig and handler agilityclass continues to prove a real crowd favourite, testing teamwork, trust, and a bit of humour in equal measure. The fancy dress class has also grownyear on year, becoming one of the standout highlights of the section overthe past two shows, bringing colour, creativity, and plenty of laughter to thering.
